A fine performance by all and a GREAT recording, done in EMI's large Abbey Rd. studio. Alsop seems to have a just-right approach to this for me. Nothing sounds under- or overplayed nor rushed. I have a soft spot in my heart for Brahms's french-horns-in-harmony writing, and the LPO's horns sound as if they're played my superhuman beings. Wait until you hear the big tune in the 4th movement. For the 1st few seconds, I thought it was a bit underplayed, but oh my is it gorgeous. The recording has just the right balance of directness and hall sound. WAY TO GO, NAXOS.
